What factors should I consider before deploying Zeus Web Servers into a live environment

Other than your standard functionality tests, it is very important to establish whether any bottlenecks would be experienced with your projected levels of traffic.

Zeus Web Server has been designed from the outset to be scalable to the point where only external factors such as operating system or hardware limitations are likely to put a ceiling on the number of HTTP requests that can be made.

It is essential that pre-deployment testing is performed to find any such bottleneck before the system is put into a live environment.

Simulating load can be performed by following the instructions in the following White Paper:

Benchmarking Web Servers on Linux

Although written with Linux in mind, it contains much advice that is applicable to other platforms.

One of the most common problems that is likely to show up is that your OS may need it's file descriptor limits changed. We provide general information on the subject here:

File Descriptor Issues

The other entries in this section may also be appropriate to youunique setup.

Please be aware that performance tuning is an advanced subjectthat takes into account your business requirements(traffic levels and their projected growth etc), capabilities of your hardware and operating system as well as detailed knowledge of your application servers and other non-Zeus software. Our Support Service can provide general advice about tuning Zeus software but for detailed advice on the interaction between our products and your non-Zeus software/hardware or growth plans, our Proffessional Services Division should be used instead. Hardware vendors maylike to consider our Performance Engineering Partnership Program.
